At Sturgeon River Ranch we are known for having a horse for every rider. We put many hours in the saddle, riding through the boreal forest, where the horses are exposed to bear, moose, elk, deer, bison, wolves and maybe the most dangerous of all ruffed grouse! These horses have experienced every level and age of rider. They cross bridges, logs, water, mud bogs and have been on many campouts where they go swimming in the lake and spend the night in electric fences or on high lines. Remember, when purchasing a horse from Sturgeon River Ranch they are all a part of our family, and so finding them a suitable match with a loving, caring home is our top priority.
Along with ensuring our horses go to the right homes, it’s also really important we find the right horse & rider match! We’ll have you book a Trail Ride with us at the ranch, and then you’ll head out on one horse you’re interested in, and you can get the guide to ride another one you’re considering (or that we recommend). Then throughout the ride you can switch between horses and get a feel if there’s a match between you. It’s a beautiful ride through the park, which will give you a much better sense of how the horse moves, their personality, and how they interact with the world around them, versus just riding in a round pen. If you do end up purchasing a horse, we’ll reimburse the fee for the Trail Ride. We want to make sure you and the horse are a great fit, and you’ll have many years of fun adventures together.
We regularly have new horses being trained, and some departing for their new homes, so we do our best to keep this information as up to date as possible. To see photos, videos and information of all of our horses, check out our Facebook Group - The Equine Superstars of Sturgeon River Ranch.
