Snow Bug Bison Tours

Sturgeon River Ranch is thrilled to announce a brand new winter adventure!!

From December through April (depending on snow conditions), join us on a 4-hour excursion to observe Saskatchewan’s only free-ranging herd of wild Plains Bison in their winter habitat.

Guests will enjoy the comfort and safety of travelling in a Bombardier Snow Machine, to and from the location. Along the way they’ll take in the beautiful scenery of northern Saskatchewan and the mix of Boreal Forest and plains landscapes.

There’s a high likelihood that other wildlife will be observed along the way as well. Guests will also have the opportunity to directly enjoy and explore the backcountry, go for a hike, do some bird watching, learn some outdoor survival tips from our guides, or just take in the peace and beauty of nature.

While we’re out in the wilderness we’ll also stop and make quick-camp with a fire, smokies, marshmallows, and a warm bevvy - tea, coffee or hot chocolate. This is definitely an experience you won’t soon forget.

*** For maximum comfort, be sure to dress accordingly, with a warm winter jacket, snow pants, tall winter boots, toque, scarf or balaclava, and winter gloves. And if you’re prone to chills, add layers! Saskatchewan winters are no joke.

1-Hour Winter Horseback Rides

From November 1st to April 30th join us this winter for a comfortably compact and incredibly scenic winter ride in northern Saskatchewan on the west side of the Prince Albert National Park.

Summer riding is amazing indeed, but you haven’t fully experienced horseback riding until you’ve bundled up and ventured out on a chilly winter’s day with a beautiful equine partner, and embarked on a frosty wilderness adventure together.

It’s an incredible experience that you’ll not soon forget. Join us soon, before the snow starts to melt!

*** For maximum comfort, be sure to dress accordingly, with a warm winter jacket, warm pants, warm boots and warm socks, toque, scarf or balaclava, and winter gloves. And if you’re prone to chills, add layers! Saskatchewan winters are no joke.

Horseback Bison Tours

Ride out from the ranch in the beautiful Sturgeon River Valley, into the wild west side of the PA National Park, home of Canada's only free ranging herd of Plains Bison, living in their historic habitat. And hopefully we’ll get to see some! Pack a snack in your saddle bag and enjoy it at the halfway point, as we pause for a quick break, and to fully embrace the natural splendor of northern Saskatchewan. Then we’ll ride back along the valley view trail overlooking Stoney Plain Meadows and Valley View Meadows.

We ride year-round, rain or shine. The trails around the ranch are beautiful whatever the season. On the long summer days, stunning dragonflies flit past as you make your way along the scenic trails, dancing to the sounds of the birds and the bubbling streams. In the winter, we trek through silent, enchanted forests sparkling with hoarfrost, and marvel at the horses’ icy eyelashes while sipping on hot chocolate.

With over a million acres to explore there is a different trail for every day of the week. And if you’re interested in a multi-day adventure, let us know in advance of your stay with us, and we can add an extra day or more of riding. Ride length is approximately 3 hours.
